Posted By: IBID How to turn ringer on on a Partner-18 extension - 07/10/08 11:32 AM
Hi there. We're using 5 Partner-18 phones, only one of which rings (the unit with the display). Is there a way to selectively enable ringing on extensions?

Thanks very much!

Selectively enable ringing? Do you mean have a phone ring all the time like the display phone or where people can turn it on or off as they want?

I guess the latter, but the former wouldn't be awful. My office is on the second floor of our building but one of the phones is down on the first floor. I plugged a cordless into the display phone so I can hear that phone ring if there is no one on line 1. Once someone on the second floor jumps on the phone, I have to stare at the phone to know if line 2 is ringing.

It would be great to turn the ringing on when I'm down stairs and turn it off again once I head upstairs.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

IBID
How about day/night ringing? You could activate that at will for the times where it is needed from the attendant's station?
what version of partner?
It's a Partner-18. We have no manual, and the woman who had a clue as to how to program from the display phone is no longer with us. It would be very inconvenient for the woman who is currently using the display phone to have to do something, programwise, every time I head downstairs.

Partner 18 is just the model of the phone itself, not the system. I am sure that for a small fee, one of our Avaya moderators will be able to help you identify the system that you have and how to set this up.

You also have the option of delayed ringing if the day/night service seems to be a chore. Activating night service is a simple push of a button though to turn it on/off, so I still think that might be your best solution. You can also combine both features to ensure that all of your bases are covered.
partner 18 is just the type of set. Can you describe the phone system? 206 modules, 308 ACS?

What means 'delayed ringing'please, and is that the same thing as the 'night service' that you mention? And which button would I push?

Sorry to be such a technodolt, but that's me.

I
if a line on a phone is set for delayed ringing, after the 3rd ring that phone will start ringing.
Biklabs asked "partner 18 is just the type of set. Can you describe the phone system? 206 modules, 308 ACS?" We have two gizmos that look like big, upturned laptops, with phone jacks thereon, in a big box. The gizmo on the left reads 206 something or other, and the one on the right does include 308 and ACS.

I guess that means, yes.

I
if you go to the display phone and hit feature 59, that will tell you the version of partner you have.
AHA! It says "P ACS R1.0.1 C01"
Assign it ringing on all lines then give it a dnd button and use it as your ringing toggle , problem solved.

As far as a manual you can download them free from Avaya.com
I'm sorry, Russ, but I have no idea what that means. Are you saying that I can program all of the phones to ring, via the display phone, and then give each a "dnd" button which would turn the ringers on and off? I'd have to set all of the phones upstairs, except the display phone, to off. Is that possible?

Again, my apologies for my idiocy.

I
At station 10 yes, you can progam any station to do what you want. You can assign a DND button on a button with lights and when you press it and it lights that phone will not hear ringing, when you press it agian and the light goes off it will ring agian If indeed thats the way you want them to work. Give me a call if you would like, number is in my profile or on my link.

That is the link for your System Manual in PDF format.
Page 360 explains the procedure for line ringing options. Since I'm sure you do not have an overlay, when it says to hit the System Program button, hit the left intercom button. when it says to hit Cent. Tel Prog. hit the right intercom button.
All he needed was to be able to turn the ringing on and off at the set he takes downstairs with him to smoke his pipe, We set 13 to ring and gave it a DND button, he is fine now.
You're darned tootin', I'm fine. Thanks again, Russ, and to Touch Tone Tommy who emailed with the same advice you gave me.

It's working like a charm. Thanks, everybody!
