I have a customer that has a Partner mail 5.0 that just failed and I am looking for a replacement. I happen to have a Partner mail 1.0 in my old stock. Is it compatable with this system? I would like to use it if they will not loose many features. It ios a 6 person office and very little call volume.

If you keep the processor, you can replace the voicemail with either another Partner Mail VS or upgrade to the Avaya Partner Messaging.

If you were to upgrade the processor to a Partner ACS, you could switch to a Partner Voice Messaging (Large) for a good basic voicemail & auto attendant.

Sorry for the Dumb question but I am a Nortel guy. So the processor is the card that is pluged into the VM correct. I believe the failed part is just the card not the processor. We are not getting any lights once we restart the system. I had a guy insite last night and he promised me that it is seated all the way in the 5 slot carrier and still gets on a red light when he first powers the system up.

Not quite. The processor and voicemail are completely separate modules that slide into the 5 module carrier. You can replace one without touching the other. (Think of the main chassis of the Norstar Meridian. You have 4 slots inside [at least our office system does], and each module can be removed and inserted independently of the others).

Now the hard drive could be toast, but I would still have someone check to make sure that the correct ports are assigned to Hunt Group #7.

(If the internal battery that keeps programming intact is dead, a power failure can mess up the programming).

If it's a PartnerII there is a 5 slot carrier that the mods (or cards if you like) plug into. The PartnerII processor is in the center slot and there are one or more expansion mods (2CO x 6 station) starting from the left most slot and going right. The messaging system usually will occupy the last available slot after the expansion modules. So, no the processor does not plug into the VM. The VM is a module like the expansion modules.

You are replacing a Partner Mail VS R5. (There is no Partner Mail R5) You can use the Partner Mail VS R1 you have but keep in mind the age of it. These things fail because the HD fails and that thing has to be on borrowed time. Other than that it sounds like it should be a good fit with only 6 people and one AA.

This sysytem has 2-5 slot carriers and the VM is in the last slot on the right. They have down sized alot and are only using a few of the 206 cards currently. The main processor is a 4.1 for the system. The VM says release 5.0 and I want to try and use a release 1.0 with the VM chip on the 5.0. I thought that chip expanded the VM to 48 amilboxes and 4 ports. Is this correct.

Yes, the PC card is a license card that expands the capacity. Bad news is you can't use the card from that R5 with the R1. The R1 only has 2 ports, that's not expandable. Without the card it has 10 mailboxes, the expansion card adds another 10. If I were you with 6 people I wouldn't even worry about the card. Be sure to remove the extra two ports from the system.
