I have a set of ShoreTel 230G IP phones that need repaired. I connect them on the switch that the ShoreGear server and ShoreWare Director hosted computer are on.

I have the files for the Shoretel 230 and 210 in my FTPROOT folder, which are called shore_sevg.txt and sevgcustom.txt and the phone still reads cannot download shore_sevg.txt ...

Is there a another file I need, since I just renamed shore_sev to shore _sevg and put in the root file folder ...?

I think the problem is that your Shoretel version is very old. I just checked and the SG230G phones were not introduced until Shoretel version 8.1. The firmware for the IP230G did not exist in version 6.1

Even though the IP230 phones were supported in version 6.1 the firmware will likely not be compatible with 6.1. While the 2 phones may look identical, the IP230G supports VPN while the IP230 does not.

You could try to modify config file to fool the phone into downloading and installing the IP230 firmware, but I would not recommend doing this. The phone may not be able to handle the old firmware and you could permanently damage the phone.

Eventually even the IP230G phones will be discontinued from Shoretel, like the IP230 phones.

Have you considered upgrade? If you have an SBE edition on a Shoretel supplied server you can buy a new server from Shoretel. I do not know if your maintenance will get renewed or if you have to buy maintenance. The most difficult part would be to upgrade the database all the way from 6.1 to 14.2. That could take a very long time. Depending on the size of the system it could actually be easier to start from scratch.
