I have an SBX system that I can't connect to no matter what I try - serial, null, lan.. On the lan, I can ping the SBX but when I try to connect I simply get an error 10061 and it tells me to check the connection device. I've forced the NIC to 10meg/half duplex but that doesn't help either.

Any ideas?

Use a cross over lan cable and connect your laptop directly to the lan port on the SBX. Make sure you set the ip for the SBX at 192.168.1.1 and your laptop should have a fixed ip of 192.168.1.2.

When you connect the SBX to the lan you need to set it up with a static ip and use your lans subnet mask and gateway. Set your laptop for DHCP.

In either case...disable your laptops wireless connection.

Thanks for the reply Derrick but no luck on any of those suggestions. I've tried two different laptops as well (XP and W7x64). I can ping it, just not connect.

Vertical tech support's only suggestion was.... wait for it.... default the system.

Well, I don't think a default is necessary, but a system reset might be in order here. The lan port will lock out and still reply to a ping.

I suspect that you are fimiliar with the admin software but for those who are not, you can't just hit connect. Connect should really be labled "reconnect" to last connection. If it is a new site, you have to use tools and add a new site info shortcut. I have a generic one that says "non lan install" for any SBX not connected to a lan, because all of those will have the same ip.

Just a side note here, the 192.168.1.1 wasn't a great idea on verticals part. how many gateways or routers also use that address...just saying.

I am familiar with the admin software but your point is well taken, Derrick - it's not obvious how to use it nor are any helpful instructions included. We've been with Vodavi for a long time but I was floored with how incomplete the documentation on the SBX is. On top of that, tech support for the SBX seems to be in limbo now - Vertical referred me to Target, Target wasn't expecting the call(s). And once I got a tech on the phone, he seemed rather uninterested in troubleshooting the issue. Not impressed.

Every time I convince myself we should pursue the MBX, Vertical does something else to remind me why not.

That address was never met to be permanent if you are connecting the SBX to a lan. It is there for initial setup with direct connection to a PC...and that is why it is such a common address.

Yes, we change all of ours.

93mdk93, have you tried setting the default gateway in the SBX? Shouldn't matter, but I've seen it do some weird things without the gateway address. I assume you reset the system after you updated the IP address of the SBX.

No Larry, that never occurred to me. I'll be on site tomorrow; perhaps I'll give that a try... I did reset the system numerous times but actually left the IP address at the default - it's not going to be on their network, at least for the time being. Every thing I need to configure is in program 108, right?

@93mdk93, I just bought a new laptop and was having the exact same problem with the error code 10061. I tried Derrick's suggestion with disabling the wireless laptop connection and then I was able to connect to the SBX with either a straight thru or a crossover cable (Thanks Derrick). Once I was connected to the SBX I could enable the wireless connection to get access to the internet and still be connected to the SBX. But if I disconected from the SBX, I had to diable the wireless connection in order to reconnect to the SBX once again. Hope this helps and good luck

So does Vertical tech support know this? Dax wasn't at all worth the 45 minutes I waited to get to him yesterday.

Some techs do and some don't, I told them about it. It may depend on the laptop. IE can sometimes not hit the web if you have two net connections and only one is connected to a lan, because it tries to connect thru the wrong one. If you disable the not connected one it works. I was having trouble connecting with Admin and figured why not disable the unconnected wireless port and see what happens.

Success! Disabled the wifi and PCADMIN connected on the first try. Thanks everyone for your assistance..
