Greetings everyone. First post - just joined today - so please pardon any mistakes or blunders I'll make.

Okay, we have a relatively large(ish) company, with a number of remote sites. At some of these remote sites, we have a Mitel SX 2000 set up, with a Nortel BCM 400 set up on the front end acting as a gateway (we will be swapping in VX400 or VX900 SHOUT boxes to replace the 400's).

A curious thing seems to happen with the Mitel/Nortel set up - after around 32 minutes (with a voice call) the call is dropped. Now we can't seem to figure out if this is an issue (configuration or otherwise) with the Nortel BCM or the Mitel SX2000. With the Mitel VX set up, we don't seem to have this issue.

Has anyone ever encountered anything like this?

Thanks in advance.

Being a Mitel person, I'd say it was the Nortel !!

Let me see if I understand this:

TELCO ----> BCM 400 ----> Mitel SX2000

Now, is it an incoming call, or an outgoing call, or both that gets dropped? Is it always 32 minutes?

Why is the BCM 400 in the picture at all?

I'm going to say that there is some timer somewhere that times out, because it appears that the lines are inactive, and drops the call.

The SX2000 does have a "call duration" option for class of service.. Could it be that easy????

To: telephoneguy

That is correct - Telco - BCM 400 - Mitel SX2000

I asked further regarding this issue and apparently what happens is that the line is still connected, but the audio drops - yes, it is always after 32 minutes.

The BCM 400 is acting as an IP gateway - the T1 comes in to the BCM and the BCM then passes the traffic onto the SX 2000 - the SX 2000 doesn't have the IP capability.

Where would I look for the "call duration" option for COS?

Oh, gotcha. BCM is serving as a channel-bank/CSU.

Fred is probably right. I don't have a 2000 handbook handy or I'd look it up for you.

Check in the COS of the trunk ports. The COS is assigned to the trunks, via "Trunk Service Assignment".
