I have a customer who has this system and they are experiencing a problem on ext 301 only where the pone will ring once, upon pick line is dead and then they hang up and the line double rings and then there is someone there. It is very random, only effects this one line.

was advised to check the phone itself, so I did a swap and the problem still exists on the one extension. Any ideas????

About the only thing I can think of is to unplug 300 and see if maybe it's a paired port problem that may actually on 300 that is causing 301 to malfunction. Also make sure the first pair is not causing it.

About all I can think of unless the port has gone bad.

what do I do in the event the port is dead? What are the cost to replace? and what are the steps to replace it? do I have to reprogram anything or what? Not experienced in this equipment and have no documentation?!

First check all the cabling, cross connect,jacks for 300 and 301 to be sure you do have a bad port, you can always move that phone to a spare port if they have any not being used. Then do a copy. If you are looking to get a manual click on the Manauls button at the top of the page, you can find one there.

I took a look at the cross-connect block, doesnt appear to have any shorts or crossed pairs, What card of the 4 would this extension be on? I the card 3 (top card on the right) was not connect properly, I re-installed that card but will have to wait until I hear from the customer today as I did the work late last night. Anything else you can think of?

It would be the first port on the bottom card of the right. They should have 24 station that are ready for use, if they still have problems after your trouble shooting I would move that phone to one of the spare ports if they have any.

ext 300 is not actually in use, they use 301 for all there reception stuff, would this cause any problems??

Why are they not using 300? This set up is not making any sense unless 300 went bad and they made 301 the recept.

Not sure exactly, kind of coming into clean up someone elses mess. They are not able to offer any explanation at this point, I may move the ext over to 300.

Shot in the dark, but I would also check any lightening protection that may be on that line. On several occasions I have run into protectors going "1/2" bad and clamping down on the ringing voltage. I've had some that would do it all the time and some that would be more erratic. Anyay just a suggestion. Out of curiousity, is 301 a display phone, and if so does it dispaly noramlly when the problem occurs or does it say anything different?

I am an amatuer so I am not sure, I assume the first pair is the line and the 2nd pair is the power, if the tip and ring on any of these pair are crossed would this cause a problem? Is polarity important on the power side? or the line side?

Yes it can, I would suggest you get a tech over to look at to be sure what the problem is.

I have been looking for this "copy" function that you spoke of earlier, to transfer the settings to another port/ext, where can this info be located? I looked in the programming manual but it is not there.

It's not called (Copy)

Program 17 (key assignments) program dest icm to a source. This will copy your key assignments but not Speed Dial, Ringing, Line Access, those will be default.

Can you change the value of an ext. Like if I use ext/port 309 can I change it to be recognized as 301 ??

No, I don't mean to be rude or mean my friend but you really sound like you are way out of your league working on this system, I would suggest you find a tech in your area to come in and help you. Once again I'm not tiring to be rude.

I am not a complete idiot. I know I dont the everything about this, thats why I am asking questions, the manual I ahve is lacking pages, I do have a general understanding but this system is not a meridian or large scale system, personally it looks like a P.O.S. but I have to get it online. Just looking for help so if you have answers I really appreciate it. I am already looking into having someone come out to assist me, thanks.

dtmf, I spoke with a tech who knows this system very well and he was saying that you need to have a phone attached to ext 300 for the system to function properly, not having one can cause strange issues, is this possible?

That's why I was asking how come they didn't use 300. That is generally your programming phone. To be honest I don't know if it would cause problems as I have never hooked one up without #300. Go ahead and hook it up.

ok I found out from the customer that yes they had the 300 ext conected prior to the move and so I reconnected it and then forwarded it to 301 where the receptionist is sitting, is there anything I need to be aware of when it comes to ext 300? Thanks for all the help.

Typically #300 is your programming phone, I would make it the receptionist phone, it sounds like the person that moved the system didn't know what he was doing or was trying to have them at his mercy. It doesn't make any sense to not have 300 up and working as the receptionist phone.

Any time, it's always hard to try and figure someone elses mess out when you didn't install or program it. Glad you got it going.

I use to work for Tie...sounds like your company downsized...got rid of the recptionist...just stored the phone from x300...theres prob a call coverage key(s) on other exts...if there was a dss unit
then port 301 might need to have its type changed. We use to skip 301 when using a dss. found it did cause tramau. Keep in mind...if you do reconnect x300 and drop 301...that person will lose handsfree/ speaker phone function.
