I figured out a workaround for this issue on an install several months ago, but now for the life of me, I can't get it to work. I searched the forum as well, to no avail:

CICS 7.0 w/CallPilot 100 - 221 is receptionist and caretaker of GenDelivery Mailbox. In the CallPilot, I assigned ext. 221 to MB 100. Callers can leave messages & receptionist can check her messages, no problem.

However...when you attempt to transfer a call to reception mailbox (F986 + 221), an error message appears (e.g. - mailbox doesn't exist, not initialized, etc.) Mailbox IS initialized and works perfectly...except when trying to use F986.

I guess my brain is getting atrophied, because I KNOW I solved this issue in the past. Now, I just can't figger it out... :confused:

I temporarily have the Gen Delivery mailbox disabled and created a mailbox "221", but this is cheating. I would like to have the functionality of the GD Mailbox.

The answer lies with your example.
F986 = Transfer to MAILBOX.
F70 = Transfer to extension
You tranfer by F986+MailBox#.
NOT F986+ext#.

Use F986+100

I realize that will work, but I'm trying to avoid having to train this entire office of "rocket scientists" to learn two different extensions for the receptionist.

As NT said, if you do F 986 it is specifically asking for a mailbox # and a mailbox # only. It does not matter at all what the extension is, it's the Mbox # that it is looking for.

That being said, the GD Mbox cannot be changed. When it is enabled, it is always going to be Mbox, 10, 100, or 1000. I don't know of any other way to access the GD Mbox other than dialing one of those numbers.

If Mbox 100 (GDMbox) is assigned to extension 221
then to do a VM xfer would be F 986 and enter Mbox 100. Any other number entered here would not reach the GD Mbox.

I don't know of a work around, but if you can remember it, please post it so we can all add it to our bag of tricks.

I'm gonna take another stab at it later this week. If I "re-figure" it out, I'll post the results.

How about this?

When the reception needs/wants her own mailbox, apart from the General Delivery mailbox, you can build a “floating mailbox”.
You build it the same way as a regular one but at extension # you put a star (*).

When you initialize the mail box you go to OTHER you put her mailbox # and the password.

No, this isn't an instance where the receptionist needs a mailbox. I want users to be able to send callers/messages to the Gen. Delivery mailbox, without having to remember the 100 vs. 221.

Only way I could ever fix that was to change the reception DN to 100.

You disable the GDM and use MB 221. Leave operator as 221. Then dialing 0 works and F986 to 221 works as well. Make sure you set CFNA of 221 to thr voice mail DN.

Yeah, that's how I have it now. Maybe I'm confused, but I remember figuring out a workaround on one particular install. I'm going to play with it more on Friday. I let y'all know if I have an epiphany.

If you disable the GD mailbox what happens to calls that go to a set without a mailbox. Or a set that's mailbox is not initailized? Those calls would usually end up in the GD mailbox???

It should say operator not available and go back go to the AA.
