I have a CICS that keeps 'power cycling'. The unit is a refurb. that they bought from a used supply house back east. I installed it three days ago and all was fine. This site has had terrible power problems and just this morning had its electrical box completely replaced due to its problems with keeping electricity on. I installed a new Belkin surge strip, about 2600 Joules.

Any idea why the system will work about 10 percent of the time and the balance of the time it is simply flashing in the displays on the phones while it is attempting to reboot?

It should be coming up every time but it can take a minute or two of flashing before it comes up.

If this is still going on after the electrical service was replaced, I would do two things.

One, get a replacement unit from the people back east.

Two, put in a substantial, always on, battery back up. There are units that turn on when the power goes out and there are units that are always on, that is what I recommend and they are more pricey than others.

EFI, 1-866-539-7743 makes really good surge protectors that will take a 2500 amp hit at 2500 volts and has a $10, 000 warranty for any damage that gets through their unit.

Just last week I had to walk a customer through removing his Samsung Compact power supply cord from a Belkin and plugging it into the wall, then all was well.

We sat there stumped one day with a digital Samsung phone that had static on it. When we turned off a nearby Belkin power strip with surge protector built in, the static went away.

Belkin makes some good stuff but I stay far away from their surge protection.

I had the same problem with a CICS, I replaced everything.

I installed surge protection/power filter, the cabinet, the line card and finally the last thing I changed out corrected the problem.....the software cartridge.

I thought it would be hardware related, but it was the damn software cartridge. Go figure, haven't had a problem since.

try the old trick.
put a digital clock with no battery backup in the power strip, next time the phones start to flash check the clock to see if the time is also flashing. like you said these guys keep having electrical problems. maybe the power is still going out.
On another note the cics will not withstand an electrical spike as well as a mics. and a good size spike will probably fry some of the components.
don't knock the referb house that sold them the unit. we do put the units through testing phases before they go out.
