Hello, we are a VoIP provider, and we have a potential opportunity with a client who has a BCM400. The goal is to provide them with SIP trunks, but we are unclear as to whether or not they need special licensing. I understand that there are potentially two ways that the VoIP licensing could go - 1. licensing for IP phones on the system, and 2. licensing for IP trunk connections. Or I suppose 3. licensing for both smile . Does anyone have a clear answer for this? Thanks!

LightSpeed: Since no one has responded to you as yet, I will try.

I have not done the SIP yet, so anything I say you will want to verify.

I believe that just having a BCM-400 may not be enough to use SIP. You need the correct version of software (or maybe a BCM-450?? )
Which version do you have?

There are different licenses.
There are IP Phones.
There are VoIP Gateway Trunks.
There are SIP Gateway Trunks.

So you should check with your Nortel BCM sales Rep to order the right license.

VoIP Gateway Trunks license will do both H323 and SIP trunk on BCM400 v4

SIP Gateway Trunks will do only SIP trunk

BCM400 not sure to support SIP end point but it does
support older Nortel IP phone version for sure ie 2002i, 2004i but not newer 11xx, 12xx series.

Hope this help
