Newbie, no professional looking to purchase and install a KX-TAW848 in a new home we are building. I have 3 CO lines, will start with 3 ML phones (KX-T7735 or 36 lighted?), 5 SL phones (3 TiVo's, 1 regular cordless, 1 fax). Buying this for future upgradablity, work from home.

I prewired with tons of CAT 5 for voice. Now is time to terminate wire and order system and install.

Questions:

1) Demarc box will be inside and I will ask for 3 seperate surface mount rj-11 jacks to connect the 3 CO's to the system. Might use a surge protector in between. Any advice there?

2) I have about 25 seperate locations throughout the house with phone jacks avaible all home runned to central location in basement (where all the service enters house). What components should I use to properly terminate and connect the KSU to the wire to the individual phones? Here is what I was planning:

From the active ports on the KX-TAW848 I will run a patch cord to a patch panel (w/110 punch down block) where I will have terminated all of the 25 or so seperate lines. I can then move ports to various locations as I add/move phones. All of this would be in a swingaway 19" rack. Rack mount the KX-TAW848, patch panel, power supply, other date compontents, video, etc.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give

One of the best features of this phone system is the way it can use cell stations and the 2 different cordless phones that integrate. If I were not going to use the cell stations I would buy a KXTA308 or a KXTA624 depending on the number of lines and extensions needed.

Yes, I totaly agree. I plan on using the wireless and have wired for some of the cell stations during the new construction pre-wie, but we are watching our cash flow for now. probably add those in q1/q2 of next year. the inital start of cost of around $200 for each cell station is a little steep and then the price of the handset too, but it seems like an awesome system. we have a 4000 sqft home on 3 levels and a large yard, so I am really looking forward to getting the cell system up and running. Do you have any experiance with it? how is the reception? coverage, esp inside of a house? how many cell stations do you use?

Thanks

For line protection, use Panamax or Towermax. If they are installed according to the manufacturers directions, they will replace any equipment damaged by the failure of their equipment.
It is well worth it if you are in an area that sees a lot of lightning.

I just Installed one in a 6000sqft house with the cell station located in the basement on top of the 848 and it is the only one i needed for that install. Have fun on the ringing programming.

The first part of your reply seems like great news. I wired 4 locations for the CS so I figure if I put it in the middle of the house no problems.

Can you enlighted me on the ringing issues?

You have to set up ringing groups and add phones to those groups for each line if you want to answer the phone even if you dont want the phone to ring. Its unlike any other pana's I have done before.
