I have just installed a 624 to take the place of a 616-10 that has been in service in my home for many years. I had the 624 on the bench for about a month playing around with the programming. Yesterday I installed it and noticed that there is strong RFI comming from the KTU. The RFI is so strong that I can hear it on every AM radio in the house - I can even hear it on my car radio in the driveway! This just won't do! The RFI was not noticed while the unit was on the bench with no house wiring attached. The second issue is a rather strong hiss on the phone stations, 7730's. It sounds like the hiss from an old analog long distance line. It's rather anoying! This was somewhat noticable on the bench, but seems worse now that the KTU is installed. What can I do to solve these issues. Shoud the KTU go back to Panasonic?

Thanks-

I suspect you have a bad wire in your house some where. Disconnect each ext. until it goes away. then troubleshoot that bad cable. Also ensure your system is grounded properly.

It's almost a "given" that the the RF is being picked up through the field wiring although it is possible that for some reason it is now being induced through the CO lines.
Disconnect all the field wiring from the system and plug 1 set directly into the KSU.
As for the hissing, it sounds as though the background music is turned on at the sets that are hissing and there is no MOH sorce.
Just press 1 while on hook and that will toggle it on and off.

I need to be a little more specific. The RFI is being induced into the building wiring FROM the 624. When I turn it off all interference disapears. The hissing sound is not from the speaker, such as in background music (yeah, I found out about that one on the 616) in the sets, it is a background noise behind a call through the handest or speakerphone. The 624 is well grounded and all wiring was working fine with the previous 616. Pansonic has a disclamer in the instructions about RFI, but I never expected it to be this severe. What I'm looking for is not only suggestions on what to do to stop it, but help in determining if I may have a stinker that needs to go back for warranty service. There is no point in spending a bunch of time chasing these problems only to find that they can't be solved on my end. I went through all of the posts and have found nothing about the RFI issue. I'd think that if this was happening on all of the units out there someone would have niticed it and written about it. As for the hissing, maybe I just have given it an over critical listening to. Like I said, I can live with the hiss, but not the RFI. Of course, not only does it cause problems across the entire AM band, but one of the hot spots is on a station that my Wife listens to...I don't need to tell you what that means!!!

Thanks again for any suggestions, I realize that this is a toughie!

"This just won't do! The RFI was not noticed while the unit was on the bench with no house wiring attached."
You answered your own question. Disconnect the lines like i suggested and plug them in 1 at a time. If you feel this is a waste of time then put your old system back in and quit asking for help.

Bob, it's not a "toughie"
We have dealt with this problem for years and I can assure you that the 624 is merely amplifying
the problem.
It's being induced either from the field wiring, the AC or the ground or a combination of any of these.

OhioTelecom and myself are simply trying to help you out.
I would suggest at this point you call a technician who deals with these problems on a daily basis
So i'm going to leave it at that and close this out.
Good luck!
