what kind of cable modems, are they 2 meg modems compressing the data for over copper. we have linked systems with gateway cards over these but you still need to set up a vpn router.

yes we have , we had found the phones lost sync with the ip ext card continually , after much mucking around with pana support we found that hardcoding the phones with an ip address etc and not relying on dhcp resolved our issues

but i think inreality cable modem is just as flakey as adsl ,if it is really just a remote user fine if it is business critical forget it , its not worth the pain

thats exactly what it is 1 or 2 remote users
(so you were able to not use a dhcp server
thats good I know what it is but don't want to mess with it)what type of router did you use
on the head end ? what type of router did you use
at far end. so all you did in the end was give
the pbx and the remote phones an static ip address
and it worked?

Shaun, the cable modem is just like dsl except it comes in through the coax. you have to setup a vpn and have one side at least with a fixed ip address from internet provider. Panasonic telephone system will have a internal ip address and the phones set with address on otherside will be logged on to system with fixed ip and gateways. the vpn will keep the link up and you should have no problems as long as the QOS is good and you have a good up link speed.
Like Hume said only good for remote user.

any router that does a vpv should do, cisco or linksys
