This is a follow up to a previous topic. I have a KXTD 1232a (that's what shows up on my laptop when I log in with my laptop. My problem is somewhere in the timing. In the tvs I have the cfwd set for 30 seconds. In the kxtd I have the transfer recall timer set for 12 rings. It seems the tvs takes precedence. The problem is that there are only 7 mailboxes being used. All the other calls should keep on ringing (i.e. depatrments should have somebody picking up and not going to voicemail.) I've also tried setting up the cfwd/dnd section in the kxtd and then resetting the system as it says but it does not change the screen. And is there a way to have a call from the outside to go directly to a mailbox instead of getting the generic "That extension does not answer. To leave a message etc." I spent all day saturday playing with timers in both systems and as I do a test it seems to work and then it doesn't. It's like I have to sneak up on it. With other techs help I've managed to get both a vodavi and an iwatsu system programmed to the delight of my new customers, even though I've never worked on them before. I've been in the business over 40 years and have worked on DBS, Mitel, AVAYA, etc. But this has me stumped. Thanks in advance. JD

Sit down with the manual and review FXD and Call Waiting.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. My plate is kind of full today (for a change) but I'll look at it later. JD

I did find some errors in programming but nothing that will solve my situation. Here are more facts about the situation. The lines that ring in to the depts. are phantom lines (281 to 287). The operator is 280. I have 7 mailboxes on the system, all in the 100's. When a call comes in, a digit is dialed to get to a particular department. If no one answers, they want the call to go to the operator (phantom line 280) which appears on all the phones. They do not want it to go to voicemail. Unless I'm wrong (not a long shot) you can't call forward a phantom nor can you delay ring it on another extension. Ideal situation: Extensions with mailboxes go to voicemail after 4 or 5 rings. Department and Operator lines (phantom lines) ring until someone picks up. I playe with FXD in the VPS but it seems to affect all the extensions. Will it work at all? JD

I have a customer with at TA1232 and TVS90 that we do something similar. Our ring groups are 19x (your phantom lines). We use these ring groups extensively. In fact, I replaced the TA1232 with a TA824 and pulled it out after 3 days because the 824 didn't support ring groups.

First, a specific extension can only belong to one ring group so if you have an extension as part of 281, I don't think it can also be part of 280. It sounds like you are trying to set up extensions as part of departments and operator, which I don't think you can do. Again, I'm talking from the perspective of the TA1232.

I will look in to the ring group aspect. I'm running a bit sporadic (as I guess a few others might be also) so I can explore different options. Thanks for the response. JD

Use the phantoms you now have. Set system to Transfer return to Operator instead of initiating extension.
Make transfer return timer as long as possible.
Use call fwd on phones with voice mail, set timer as needed.

Another Saturday wasted. I don't know if I'm setting parameters wrong or what. Here's the latest. In the VPS under Dial Parameters I have the Call Transfer Recall set at 60 seconds. I have call forward no answer in the kxt set at 4 rings; it seems that the VPS is ignoring the phone system and going with this timer at 60 secs. If I knock the timer down to 30 secs. it follows that ignoring my cfwd timer. In the kxt I have the transfer recall timer set to 12 rings. I have the Hardware PBX Interface set at TD1232/TA1232 and DPT integration mode. For brokeda: Is the Transfer return to operator set in the VPS or the KXT? This was working fine till they wanted mailboxes. Hope I'm not ticking anybody off out there. JD

Okay. Not being pissed off RTFM. Notably 4.3.68 Phantom Extensions. What part of NO CALL FORWARDING do you not understand? A phantom is an END there is no forwarding. We use it as the escape from VM jail and everybody knows to answer it. Period, end of story.

Now if something else came along, like maybe supervised transfer then that's a different story, but FXD to a phantom just activates the recall timer. It's your only option.
