Hello,

I inherited a Panasonic D308 Hybrid system. It was pulled from working place. It is capable of 3 CO and 8 extension.

I am new to the phone system.
I want to set it up at home office. I am stuck at 2 places.

The 25 pair connector cable & 66 block are connected. I am trying to connect the wires from a phone jack to the 66 block. I can not seem to get it to work.

I used the blue pair to connect on the 66 block as well as the jack.

I tried different combination of the twisted pair, but I can not seem to get it to work.

Can someone tell me how I should connect the twisted pair, what color I should be using, can I use just use 1 pair?

The 3CO jack is for 3 incoming phone lines. I do not have any phone plug that uses 3 pairs, I have 2 pairs for phone lines and 4 pairs for cat5.

Can I use the phone plug for this? How should I assign the color of the twisted pair wire for the phone plug?

Thanks for your help.

It all depends on what 308 you inherited. The basic system is capable of 3 lines and 8 digital phones with the first 4 ports being "combo" ports. The 30891? card gave it 8 combo ports and DISA or something like that. (I don't remember, that's what they make manuals for)

In your study, you will learn what a 6-pin jack is. It has the capability of being used for 1,2 or 3 lines, all counting from the center pins. A 4-pin jack, clearly misses the 3rd line that would be in the outer pair. You can find and crimp 6-pin plugs and associated jacks at any home improvement store.

The manual also shows how Panasonic uses a 25-pair cable. It's always in 3-pair configuration, with the first pair for analog, the second pair digital, and the 3rd pair for whisper page on the proper phone. Panasonic has both analog and digital proprietary phones, the analogs use 2 pairs. Again, it's referenced in the manual.

It may show the color code, but if it isn't just search 25-pair color code for telephone cables and you'll get several hits.

And last, check your PM's. There's a link to the 308 manual there.

Can I use 1 pair or do I need to connect The digital pair and the pager for for the phone system to work?

I connected 1 pair (digital) for the extension. I connected the extensions, the date and time is showing on the phone led.

When I intercom another phone, the intercom works, I can pick up, when I can not hear anything, what could be wrong?

I connect one working phone line to the CO with 2 pairs, When I press the CO button, there is NO dial tone. I have a verizon phone line.

What am I missing?

3rd pair is only for the old APT KX-T 7130

The old 110 block that plugs into the phone system, the punchdown pins are not connecting properly. I use a flat head to push the pair down, but it comes loose of slight touch.

Can I replace it with a 66 block? where can I get a replacement cable/block, cheap smile? thanks.

I am getting the hang with the system, programming is another store, but connecting extension and the CO is working.

Now there's a problem. If you get a 66 block, what do you plan on punching down the wires with, another "flat head"?

Buy a 66 block at a home improvement store (about $15) and buy a proper tool while you're there. Strip the cable from the 110 block and reterminate it.

If you used anything but the proper punch tool then the 110 block is trash. Do as Carl says and get a new block with the proper punch down tool.

I found out what that cable is call, I think its the amphenol cable connect the phone system to the block. I have a 66 block, but I do not have the cable that connects to the phone system. It has a lot of wires underneath the block. Where can I buy the whole assembly cheap.

thank you for your help. I will look for a 110 punch down tool.

It looks something like this

I am used to 66 blocks, can I replace the assembly with this?

If you're having trouble wiring the block, might think about just getting a "harmonica" from Sandman....it's a little device that converts the 25 pair/amphenol connector on the KSU straight into "regular" phone jacks. No 66 block or punch down tool needed. You'd need to buy the one with (8) 3-pair jacks and male amp connector.

I've had one for years hooked up to a 308 I use to test phones. If you're just an end-user I think this would be much easier for you.

Since I have a pair of TD-1232-4's on the shelf, it is never wrong to have a couple of these hanging on the rack https://public.carl.airpost.net/panasonic/66_w_mbc4_and_male_amp_Pana

I could be persuaded to part witn one of them. It is terminated on the left side and the cross connects go on the right. With or without the MBC-4's.
