Is anyone programming the Sprint Protege' line of products with a Windows XP machine. I want to upgrade my old, old laptop to XP and I would like to know if my RMP will still operate correctly.

Yes, and it's easy to set up. You don't have to boot to DOS either...just use a Command Prompt.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I'm understanding. Use the command prompt for what? To start the program?
I have different software versions of RMP. Will these programs still run with XP installed?

Open Windows as normal then:

Start/Programs/Accessories

On that menu you will find Command Prompt
From there, everything 'runs' like DOS.

PM Sent

PM sent

Make a directory called Protégé

C:\>Protégé

Then in that directory make a sub directory for each version of software you need:

C:\>Protégé\F3F45
C:\>Protégé\F4F37
C:\>Protégé\F5F12
C:\>Protégé\F5F20
C:\>Protégé\S3F21
C:\>Protégé\S4F06
C:\>Protégé\S5F05

Once all your .exe files have been installed and you can get to these in a few different ways:

Start/Run CMD

This will shell you out to DOS

From there you can change the directory to C:\>Protégé

When you have finished you type Exit and this will close the DOS Shell, and you're back in the Windows environment.

OR

A quicker way is to make a shortcut on your desktop to C:\>Protege

Once you do the above you can create a folder on your desk top "Sprint Protege" and then paste shortcuts to this folder. Each shortcut should be named with the version of software. You can also change the ICON of that shortcut to show if it is a CTX or MTX/LTX

I keep my Protege RMP on an older version of Windows because of one issue. (I use Win2000)

The Protege CTX used a non-standard RS-232 implementation. Windows XP and later OS versions use some form of buffering that can cause delays in downloading and uploading data. I learned this at a site that took over an hour to download. Sprint Tech Support (yeah, this was before Sprint shut down) confirmed the problem and I never heard of a good work-around.

This issue did not appear in the LTX model.
