Rather than an O'scope, while you are getting that CR2032 battery @ R/S, get a serial data monitor and 2 25 pin M/F cables so you can monitor the data full time. I say cables because you will probably discover that the LED's on the monitor will be against the wall and unwatchable! And a data dump is a big file that contains the entire program, not a bad thing to save to a file. But it can take over an hour if the baud rate is low. John C. (Not Garand)

Many years ago when I first started in this business, the company I worked for used to maintain Mitel systems. Personally, I never got into Mitel! Anyway, we had rash of SMDR failures, at least one a week. Turns out, a couple IC chips were the problem and these chips were readily available at the local RS. These chips were soldered in and as I had skills in this area, they were removed and chip sockets were installed then we just plugged in the replacements! So to all the Mitel mods, please forgive this lowly Comdial tech for treading into unfamiliar territory.

And the chips are 1488 and 1489, RS232 receiver and driver. At least around here, R/S no longer carries them, so we get 'em from Digi-Key. They're so cheap, we get 10 at a time, last a couple of years. And changing the socket is a good thing. By the way the SX50 uses a VERY TINY package that is not a 14 pin dip package, and NOT fun to change, for these old eyes! John C. (Not Garand)
