All message prompts were wiped out on our Mitel SX-50 system. We operate a hotel and are looking to reset this as soon as possible.

Need Day and Night prompts to both be reset.

Tried dialing ext 150 and/or 151 and waited for beep. No beep...just went to busy after a few minutes.

Should we be doing this from the SX-50 console or another phone? (We have been doing it from the console).

Thank You for your help.

The SX50 itself does not have any type of message storage.
You must've had a 3rd party auto-attendant or external voicemail that the greetings/messages were stored on. Any idea of the model/make of the unit?

From what I believe...and whats handwritten in the previous manager's phone system handbook, it's a cobot receptionist system. Not sure of any models or any hardware that we may have. The instructions tell me to:

Dial EXT 150 or 151
Wait for beep, dial *789#
Wait for double beep.
At double beep, dial *40 to record day prompt.
Press pound and *41 to immediately record night prompt.

Okay from what I can tell the Cobot was manufactured by Farmstead Telephone Group. If you go on their website you don't even find an mention of it in their products so it must be pretty old. I would suggest you look at the unit and see if there is a way to unscrew the back and see if it takes any kind of battery. A lot of older auto-attendants used to use a 9 volt battery to hold the memory up but if it when the battery went it caused all kinds of problems. If it's shot I think you are out of luck and may need to just get a new auto attendant box. There are several different manufacturers that make them. You probably just need a 1 port for your size property (since the new ones process calls a little more quickly. If you do get a 1 port you will have to adjust the hunt group for the auto-attendant, but there are people here who can help you with that.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Thanks Dane and 55,

I've been trying to resolve this all day. Our desk has been getting calls all day. I've redirected all calls to a cordless (home phone) for the time being while i completely reprogram the SX-50. I know it's an old unit... but it's here and it works. Everything is back in place.

I'm only having issues with reprogramming the trunks, hunt groups...and the biggest issue is the auto-attendant. I didn't realize that it was a separate device.

I'm confused, however. Is it a SERVICE that we are paying for monthly (I cannot find and bills or records of payments to any communications company) or is it a port like Dane mentioned that is just hardware added to the SX-50 unit (hopefully!).

It should just be a box, with one or two line cords plugged into it, probably located somewhere near the phone system itself.

yeah couldn't tell you exactly what it looks like because I couldn't find a picture of it. It could be anything from a 4inch by 6 inch box to a 20 inch by 10 inch box. %% is right though it if you can find the jacks in the phone room (which is probably where the unit is ) with the extension numbers you mentioned marked on the jacks you could trace it to the unit - but if it's really old then it could have the power voltage wired onto posts on the back of the unit (remember those 55?)

It is really the COBOTYX, more Google hits, and may have been rebranded as the Merlin Attendant. Here is the link to Merlin Merlin Page and cobotxy You may want to move to the voice mail page

Just a note here. If you HAD to reprogram the entire system, you would should replace the memory battery, NOW. If you push and hold status while the console is idle, it will display the software version. If it is MS53, MS54, or MS55 it uses a CR2032 'coin' battery. This is a pretty common battery now, even Wal-Marts sell it. Not hard to change, but if you don't know where and what your announce/transfer is, you'd probably better spend the $ for a qualified tech. If the software version is not as stated, you need a Tadiran TL5135. These are tough to find and I'll bet 55footer can help you there. But, in the end, I suspect you'll be better served by having a qualified Mitel tech make a visit.

Farmstead Telephone group apparently acquired Cobotyx some time ago

https://sec.edgar-online.com/1997/03/25/00/0000910647-97-000076/Section2.asp

This looks like it might be the unit you have.
