I got the module hooked up to a analog cordless phone. I am not getting a dial-tone. When I call the extension it rings but it will also not allow me to answer it seems.

I went into the maintenance mode to check the setup on that extension 248. I made sure Primary line was I/C. I want to get a internal dial tone so they can dial extensions and if they dial a 9 they get a outside line. Right now there is no dial tone and I can't dial either.

I have one intercom key set. Not sure exactly what else to do. Can someone give me step-by-step by the menu system on what to check? We use PoolA for our phones. I am mainly a IT person for computers, not really strong on the phone side.

One more thing to add. I see the maintenance section show that the ATA is present. It is set to Off-Site if that means anything.

Make sure that extension has been assigned at least 1 line pool and at least 1 intercom button, 2 might be better.

I can assing it 2 intercom buttons. Not a problem. But explain how I assign it one line in the pool when all I see is Pool A. But nothing that lets me select a line. Thanks.

Yes, you cann't assign outgoing line as a Prime on ATA. It always will be Intercom but you have to assign Pool A access to that ext.248. as soon as you will do what Dmcsales said you will get dial tone.

I looked for the setting internal and there was not. The only settings in the ATA is Off-Site and On-Site. I tried On-Site and it did not give me a dial tone either.

The extension is set to Pool A (as YES) all the rest are no.

Still not working. Any help?

Often times I have found that ATA's need to be rebooted after the initial setup. Also have you tried another analog phone? Some cordless phones are not compatible.

I will try another phone tomorrow. I will bring a normal non-cordless phone.

You need to have yor butt set to hook up and test a dial tone. Make sure you connected your digital port from the system to the right jack on ATA 2. Connect your digital telephone to that port and make sure that phone is not working.

A digital phone works on this line. Already tested that. The ATA is just not working for some reason.

I assume you being an IT person, do not have a but set, like Vad has commented on. Who sold you the ATA and do you have an inteconnect that works on your phones. If you know that port is active, there is either a problem with the ATA or the way it is configured. I would call the company that sold you the rad and get them to come back and fix it.

The port works. I took a Meridian m7310 and tested it. I definitely do not have a but set. Like you said I am mainly a IT person not a phone tech. A friend that is out of town right now gave me instructions on how to set it up and get it working. If I can't get it working he will come out and try to resolve the issue then. But for now trying to save time he gave it to me to hook it up. But obviously its not working like it should.

Going to sound stupid, do you have the power supply and is it putting out? Look for the simple things! smile John C.

Sorry guys was in Alaska on vacation for a while. The ATA II was defective. As soon as I got a replacement and installed it, it worked like a charm!

And I, and probably a 'few' others are jealous re the vacation destination. Want to go to Alaska once before I die, but prospects are not good. frown John C. (not Garand)

Well, an update. The device has been working fine till now. Now it seems to stop working and the only way to get it to work is to unplug the actual RJ11 from the input (the phone system) side and plug it back in. The device then gives us a dialtone. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

I'd unplug the station side of the ATA not the phone system side to see if dialtone is coming through the ATA but being held up by a short/off hook condition on the station side.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to say. I unplugged the system side and plugged it back in and it made it start working again. When I unplugged the ATA itself before doing this and plugged it back in it didn't fix the problem.

You have a sytem feed into the ATA. You have a station feed out of the ATA. If the station side shorts or goes offhook it will pull dialtone through the ATA. IF there is no dialtone it could be because it senses the station is still in an offhook condition. By unplugging the station side you eliminate this possibilty. If you still don't have dialtone after unplugging the station side you have eliminated a field trouble and have to look at the ATA itself.

Well I believe by unplugging the power from the phone (portable phone itself) took care of this hook issue on that side. It didn't clear up after I plugged it back in. The only time it clears is when I unplugged the phone cable from the system feed.

Unplugging power to a portable phone base still leaves the base in the equation, the jack, the cable, etc. If you don't unplug the service at the ATA you have accomplished little to troubleshoot. Good luck.

Take the crossconnect out of system side and mesure voltage. If less then 24V you have a bad port. I had this problem b4. As soon as you take ATA out system comes back up with the right voltage but as soon as you plug the ATA back in drops voltage to 4V.
