So I have a old DK, looking at the SMDI interface. I assume the CTX will be the same.
I plugged it into a PC and opened hyper term. I can see the integration coming from the Toshiba just fine.
I can not enter msg waiting commands back to the system.
ie: OP:MWI 0000002305
That should turn on the msg lite for 2305, I do not even get my entry echoed back to the terminal.
A friend suggested that he thinks it took a control character before the string to enter a command.
Anyone ever tried doing this?

I would not expect the system to echo the characters back to your terminal. The system is not trying to talk to a human. It is talking to another machine. It my send an ack that it recieved the digits.
Which is another reason tryingg to manually turn on a MSG light through a terminal, your typing is much slower then the viocemail can send. It may just get tired of waiting for you to send everything. The enter does not send the string. Your typed entry is sent, 1 character at a time.

There used to be a program I used that could send a script or something like that. I think it was Procomm. Someone might chime in to vouch. Are you having problems with the voice mail unit turning on the mw lamps?

No, Looking at installing Asterisk systems as voice mail. Have it working with inband, but it is slow.
Tried manually turning on the msg lite because it was not turning on with the smdi through asterisk.

For what it's worth, I am also using Asterisk for voicemail on our CTX670 and after a little bit of tweaking, it is working quite well.
I am not using SMDI though -- I'm using analog ports.
