I'm overhauling a voicemail PC and bought almost all new parts for the PC, however I've run into a show-stopper.

Motherboard: ITOX G4E620-B
Power Supply: CoolMax CX-350B
RAM: (2) Kingston ValueRAM KVR266X64C2/1G 2.5V
Processor: Intel P4 3.2

I put everything together and powered it on but had no video and no POST beep. Disconnected everything leaving only the PS, processor, and RAM. Same results. Pulled the RAM and heard an error POST beep. I tried one stick of the same RAM in either slot, and tried the same with only the other stick. I also tried a single stick of DDR 256MB in either slot, also with the same results.

Any ideas? Bad mobo? Bad processor?

Thanks!

Justin

Test the out-put on the power supply leads and count the POST beeps and refer to this:

Is the video built into the motherboard?

No. PCI, and right now it's removed.

Are you able to get into BIOS? If not, someone probably botched an upgrade attempt. The most recent BIOS --released in Sept 2004--adds support for ECC memory.

If you can get into BIOS, did you set the CL (CAS latency) parm to 2.0? Note that you would have to disable "Speed by SPD" in favor of "Manual" and set the value in the "DRAM RAS# Precharge" field. Set the ECC field for "Non-ECC" as you have x65 DRAM.

You say that you're "overhauling" this machine. Was it dead when you got it? If not, did you try the original memory sticks? Those ITOX MBs are super finicky about the RAM that goes in there.

The 5VSB lead of the CoolMax CX-350B is rated at 2.5A...well above the required 1.5A for "Suspend to RAM", "Wake UP on [mouse/LAN/etc]" and other functions. I doubt it's the power supply.

Lastly, try defaulting the BIOS. Power off, then set JP3 pins 2 and 3 to On. Wait a bit, then put the jumper back to pins 1 and 2. Boot and hit <DEL> to return to the BIOS screen. Set CPU Clock ratio to default.

What is the condition of the Power/Standby LED (on or dark) after powering the box on?

Not able to get into BIOS because no video displays. I didn't put the video card back in after pulling the RAM.

I already defaulted the BIOS. I did that before powering it on for the first time.

The old board has a P1. This new board is a socket 478, and I have a P4 in it. RAM in the old board was pre-DDR. New board requires DDR (as you saw in the specs you found).

There is no Standby LED. The Power LED on the case stays green through the continuous POST error beep, pause, repeat. The 2 LEDs on the board itself also stay lit solid through the error beep and pause.

ITOX got back to me and pointed out that the board doesn't support 800 MHz FSB, and only supports 512 L2. The processor I bought has 800 FSB with 512 L2. It looks like I'll need to go down to a 2.4 with 533 FSB and 512 L2. I'm waiting on an answer from ITOX on the memory support, since the documentation is a bit contradictory.

You are correct, sir! ITOX offers a CPU/motherboard table here . Why I assumed that the processor was already mated with the board is beyond me. If it makes a difference, I think you're actually OK with the RAM you've got.
