Wondering if carriers can simulate dial tone on the channels of a T-1 using DID wink start on all 24 channels? Also should they be able to provide caller id? Is this POSSIBLE?

Not sure about your first question to be honest...but as for caller ID it is my understanding that it is possible IF the carrier can do it on a T-1, but I do not think that they can do it through a channel bank either way.... Most carriers that I have delt with cannot (or will not) do it through a T-1 at all. However, in my market a PRI costs about the same anyway, so it is not a big deal.

You can simulate dialtone on a wink start trunk "wink dialtone" is the feature in a 5ess. I do not see it done all that often. I agree with Steve, if you can get a PRI for the same price or at least close go with the PRI.

The carrier should be able to put dialtone on trunks -- this is a switch feature.

If you are using digital trunks, a channelbank is not necessary, only a csu/dsu to provide a test point. If you are using analog DID's a channelbank is necessary. Analog DID's are inbound only.

I believe you can only deliver the calling number, not caller name over E&M trunks.

We have customers receiving caller ID numbers but not names over E&M trunks. Nuvox is the provider.

This is a T-1 going straight into a DTI card not a channel bank. I went out there today and they were able to simulate dial tone. Afterwards you couldn't call out, but could receive calls in fine! WinStream formally Alltel finally told me there was nothing they could do! I think they were close just didn’t want to fool with it anymore. This is on a NEC DS2000 and Alltel is using a Nortel DMS switch by the way! I can provide dial tone but customer don't like using the loop keys and the store and forward feature delays outbound calls. The customer demands line appearances and don't like that when they go off hook on a line they hear silence although they can still call out. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have installed 3 DS2000 with the DTI card and never had the problem you are speaking of.

Well I've done about 20 T-1 installs on the ds2000's and everytime I used DID's I went through this (no dial tone on the channels) untill the store and forward feature released in 3.10.??. I don't understand why they can't do this at the CO! NEC tech support also said the carrier should be able to make this happen! Dans ,did you have a system setup with 24 DID wink start lines? How did you provide dial tone if you didn't use loop keys and the carrier couldn't do it? And are you saying you never had sidetone problems on the system side with earlier versions prior to 3.22.07? Enlighten me if you will?

Are you sure this is not a PRI?
