WHEN ORDERING A T1 AS A TRUNK HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHAT TYPE OF SIGNALING IS BEING USED...LOOKING FOR STANDARD CAS W/FEATURE GROUP D OR MF... NOT SURE HOW YOU CAN TELL OTHER THAN JUST TO ASK THE REP BUT YOU DONT ALLWAYS GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER...

Ask for a cut sheet, it should have line coding and signalling w/ features on it... if not, you have to have someone who knows something tell you.

We try to refrain from typing in "all caps" because in many instances, typing in all caps denotes "YELLING". smile

When trying to communicate CAS MF signaling with a rep, I suggest using the term "IN-BAND MF". Feature Group D trunks are also commonly referred to as "equal access" trunks by many LECs and IECs. FG-Ds use Bellcore standard protocols that guarantee that all calls are processed equally, regardless of carrier.

welcome to the board, NDCI.

The reason you don't get a straight answer is because the Rep doesn't understand what it means. Common problem in carriers.

CAS = Channel associated Signalling. $10 word for in-band or in-channel DTMF signalling.

When ordering T1, you tell the carrier what signalling you want for your specific needs, not the other way around.

If what you are really asking is "How do I know what to tell the carrier when ordering a T1?" then just say that.

The carrier I am dealing with does expect me to know everything. Thats fine except when trying to understand thier information . The NC code desriptions are vague at best... Trying to call a rep is a daily, weeks long process that runs in circles... I will insist on the signaling I need and see were it gets me... Can you get a blank stare through a phone?

Thanks for the replies this is a great site....

I work with NC coding all the time… If you have specific NC code and options you’re looking to validate, I might (as well as others) be able to assisit.
