My customer has a Durafon 4X that's failed. Called Engenius and the thieves said it was 5 years old and unrepairable so they offered my customer $1000 towards the new system which is $2699.

Any idea who can repair one of these bases?

Thanks.

Disposable consumer goods. That's what it's become.

I recently discovered that Vizio TVs (just bought one) are not repairable when out of warranty. Sheesh! mad

I have tried that phone. Range is amazing...so is the price.

Are the chips off the shelf or propitiatory?

We just "repaired" a customers' SN920 Ultra. We cleaned it, and gave the battery a nice, long charge. It works fine right now. The customer did not want it back, so we are keeping it.

Because of this thread, I removed the label that said "Keep seal intact" over the screw hole and opened up the base unit. It's built like a tank. Cast metal where I've never seen metal on a phone. There is not much that can happen to the inside, however not too much you can do to repair it with "regular" tools. Without further dis-assembly, I can't see any chips (they seem to be all protected by a heavy metal casing). I see resistors, and other things and a small board that might be replaced. No fuses. Perhaps, if you had 5 or so of these, you could figure out what is bad on one of them and use parts to replace----but it would be quite a tedious job.

These are really nice phones---expensive, heavy--but nice. However, once they go bad, it doesn't seem like an easy thing to repair them.

5 years ago, I was told the same thing by an Engenius rep when I asked about repair. He said to just buy new. I remember that I did a search for refurbed ones---but they were almost the same price as new. That's all I know.

I've got a bran new 490 with two phones, sold them as a dealer then business went way down when my partner broke her hip and she died in Oct. last year so I haven't done much.

Any Engenius dealer should be able to get them fixed for you but the 920s are so discontinued that I don't think they work on them or have batteries.

They have a list of dealers on their website so you can probably get one of them to get a unit fixed for you.

EnGenius is a very strong and high quality product IMO, but I do think it sucks that they stopped support for handsets that are over 5 years old.
Especially for what they cost.

IMO, it's all about pushing new product out the door......

I recently replaced a 4X system with three handsets with whatever they call the "new" system and do not believe it cost near as much as you are saying they quoted you.

Unfortunately I cannot access my work e-mails to get specifics right now so if you reply I will get a reminder and let you know what I paid.

How many handsets does your customer have?

I agree with all the other posts, they are big, clunky and very expensive. They do seem to be the only solution to needing extended range wireless phones.

When I received the new system I did try to register one of the old handsets and it did not work. I could see no physical difference between the handsets except the new ones have a green color around the display. The batteries and chargers are identical, as is the connector for the external antenna.

I sent the old base station and handsets back to them for the credit.
