First time posting, lots of good information on here. I have searched through and haven't found a thread that pertains to my issue, so please if there is one, point me to it.

What I have is a 7100 system in a small office. They do not have Exchange server and honestly don't need anything like that. I have been told that you can use external smtp servers to get the email gateway working, however I have been unable to get it working.

What I have done:
Entered the smtp server's ip address into the host id field of the mclass settings, entered the port #, user id, and password.
Then I have set up a user's mailbox to email to them.

My main question is:
Does anyone know of any external smtp servers that do work with this? Or are there any standalone smtp servers that can be loaded on the internal network to accomplish this task?

Thank you for your time and help.

Yes, using external SMTP servers will work. Log into the system using telnet and watch the port activity... that will tell you where the problem is.

There are also several other steps that need to be completed to get the E-Mail Gateway working. There is a separate tech bulletin from several years ago that walks you through the setup step-by-step.

Feel free to contact me for off-line for more information.

Thanks for the help on this. In case any other users have godaddy as their email provider, the you must use the smtp server's ip address in the host id field and the port set to 80.
