This didn't really fit in any categories but it was interesting enough that I wanted to share it. I was with a tech yesterday setting up a customer on an in-building DSLAM we have. The loop length should have been approximately 200' at the most. The tester trained and showed 7 megs x 1 meg were available but we have the port set to 3072x896k.
After we hooked the modem up it was only getting 3072x640k. I made the tech go through and check his jumpers. I finally noticed that he had split the pair that went to the DSL modem jack. It was on the ring of the above pair and the tip of the correct pair on the 66 block.
I've had this happen before on longer loops but never with such good speed.

There are some DSL installations on 200' of parallel-conductor drop wire (on top of whatever the distance to the CO is).
