I am looking for any suggestions to pass along to my ESI Reseller, but I am running a 256X X-Class FSIII. We previously had a 6-zone page system installed, but all 6 zones were chained together to function as one. I had my installer setup a new zone for me last week for my lobby area with a new page control, speaker, volume, everything. We attached the new page control unit to CO position 25. Now, if someone views a call in Caller ID or VIP and hits the Redial key, the system automatically picks up CO25 and attempts to dial out in my lobby speaker. Needless to say, they call doesn't go through, but my clients in my lobby get to hear the lovely sounds of a phone dialing a telelphone number. Since I am a Health department, and I know that some (very few, but none the less)people can listen to the tones from a telephone and know what number was dialed. We are planning on utilizing this system for our Annual Flu Clinic this friday, which was the primary reason for this installation. I don't think it will be much of an issue on Friday, but we would like to continue to use this new page zone for our receptionists once the clinic is over, but I don't want my clients to hear touchtones every time someone on my staff decides to use their redial key. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You need to put it on the first analog CO port in the system. The system automatically selects the last CO Port that the extension doing the paging is allowed to access. If that is busy it selects the next to last etc. Put it on the first port and the only way you will have any issues is if all of your CO ports are in use.

If CO25 was programmed to be "incoming only" it wouldn't be affected by outdial attempts????

if it was Incoming only, then How would he access it?

Move the lines down, make it line 1

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

I would think that even if it was set for incoming only, if a phone has a button programmed for CO25 that it would still be able to access the line. I don't know, but I will definatly run this by my installer.

If incoming only creates other issues then make CO25 the only member of group 7, outdials will goto last line in list of group 9 thus avoiding CO25. For button access all phones will have to be programmed with access to both 9 and 7. Then the programming of a co line key as CO25 will access it if that particular ext has access to group 7.

Why is this zone not connected to the 199 port?

I think the way it works is it will use the highest line number that the extension is authorized to use regardless of which line group that line belongs to. If it is an incoming only line you probably can't pick it up and make a "call" with it. My guess is the T1 is in slot 1 so it isn't as simple as swapping the lines. We always put the T1 card in slot 2 and put a 612 card in slot 1 for just this reason. If you swap cards you will lose all of your CO programming and can't restore programming because the trunk programming has changed so it is a little bit of a project. Your installer can try the fixes suggested above...you might get lucky. I know putting it in group 8 did not work.

Get a Viking ZPI-4 four zone paging unit. Have your installer put it on the paging port of the system getting it off the CO lines. Program a button for overhead paging; press the button, dial the desired zone 1,2,3,4 or 0 for all.

Even if you change the line group to something different on the CO lines and put page zone on the first line on the system a potential danger exists. If an undirected 911 call is made and the only available line is the line used as the paging port, the system will use it to dial out regardless of trunk group.

It has been my experience that if an extension has access to both groups 9 & 7 the first available line will be selected from any available lines in group 9 first then go to group 7 only if all of group 9 are in use. My experience is mostly with S-Class and E-Class. Very little with the X-Class.

The effort involved in giving it a try is all programming. You'll know in 5 minutes one way or the other.

Put CO25 in group 7
Give the ext you are programming from access to both 9&7
Call that extension and leave a message
Access the message and use the callback feature
Let us know what line it accessed to outdial.
