For those of you who have customers asking for VOIP dial tone and are not satisfied with Vonage--take note. We just completed lab tests today between a hardware manufacturer and a SIP dial tone provider with success. After running into dificulty with Vonage I decided there has to be something better & did the testing myself. The result is that I've come up with a solution that might be of interest to some of you. Here's what we can do 1) support disconnection supervision 2) support as many lines as you want with only 1 DID and do busy rollover just like your CO does. 3) support both inbound & outbound caller ID 4) support QOS to help ensure quality of service. 5) We can do this on a DSL/Cable all the way up to 3 T1s.

I am also interested although we have achieved the same by installing the business plus which use media gateways rather than the Linksys or Motorola routers, the only part we haven't been able to do is the outbound caller ID. But please share the information ------------------ One stop Voice and Data Solutions VoIP

As far as inbound routing.
Do you have to basically assign a number to a trunk, then assign the trunk to an extension?
vs.
Routing the call based on the number dialed without permantely assigning it to an invididual trunk that is permantely assigned to an extension? Where the number will basically come in on any trunk that happens to be available then transfering it to the extension?

Fisher: What you are asking for is IP trunking on an IP-PBX. This is not the same as replaceing ILEC dial tone with VOIP dial tone like I'm working on. Check out https://www.epygi.com/ for DID translations. I believe their product can do what you're looking for.

At this point we have no sales channel by which to purchase the solution I'm working on. If you wish to be updated as soon as a sales channel is established send me an email & I'll put you on my mailing list. Still working with the services provider & the gateway manuf. to try to make this solution official. The gateway manuf. & service provider were talking today about comming up with an agreement. When this is done I'll release info.

OK. We've just finished our first customer install using this solution. We have a DID number plus a toll free number pointed to the gateway with busy rollover from ports 1-4 & then another DID + toll free pointed to the same gateway with busy rollover from ports 5-8. Outbound CID is also split with the rollover groups. Everything has worked out well & customer is happy.
Here's how we're doing it. We're using the Patton 4520 series gateway & Nexvortex service. You can get the gateways from a supplier of your choice & order the service through us. We will assist with the configuration. Rates are 2.5 cents per minute + $10.00/mo for the DID, no limitation on number of lines, no set up fee.

You are using the term DID. Is it a true DID as in DID circuit capability? Where you can order 100 numbers and so forth?

It's not a true DID as you & I know DID in a PRI. I call it a DID becuase we are delivering as many telephone numbers as you want on 1 broadband circuit & routing them to the FXS port of your choice.

Translations are being done in the Patton gateway. When you say "switch" I believe you're thinking about an IP-PBX. Keep in mind that this project is not about IP-PBX trunking which can be done on the nexvortex servers, rather it's about replacing B1 circuits. The customer can cancel B1s, save on long distance plus port numbers into an ILEC that can't be ported in any other way.

So really you are simply pointing a DID to a 1B right?

I'm doing the same thing that Vonage is doing accept adding features at the gateway such as disconnect supervision, busy rollover, etc that Vonage won't do.

The gateway is kinda pricey, lest I be looking at the wrong thing. We would need a patton 4520 smartnode to hook up right? mark

4520 smartnode is correct. Pricing depends on the port configuration, type of power supply etc. I'll email you a price through us in the event it's better than your were quoted.
