Okay, guys, where is Pr 1 used, next to the C O or where?

Or is Pole 1 way out in the edge of town or next to the C O?

Is a RA terminal permanent count?

Ed, you and Bill can be the judges.

Pair 1 (first pair in binder group)

pole 1 (pole assigned by street address)

RA term(does not have to be a permanent count)

I'm not going to be a judge on this one! The best I can do is take a guess:

1: Pair 1 is used as an open talk pair?

2: There is no such thing as pole 1?

3: If the RA to which you refer means "ready access" then the answer is no. A ready access terminal it is not a permanent or fixed count, pair assignments are "on the fly" throughout the entire cable core. Am I close?

By the way: Bill, Ken is scaring me with questions like these.

Hard to judge what I don't know..where do you find this stuff Ken? My guesses, and I've spliced plenty of cable and climbed a lot of poles, so you'd think I'd know.

1. I think cables dropped the highest count first, so pair one would be the furthest out.

2. Think the same applied to poles, that's where they got it.

3. I'm with Ed on that one.

I had no idea about any of these, so that's why I didn't guess

Any one else? You guys get better and better and I have to dig further and further to get one over on you guys.

OK, I am leaning toward Bill's answer on the pair one question, the first pair should end up at the far end of the cable count. At least as it is installed.

Grab your GTE, Contel, RUS, or about any normal plant engineering guide and the answers are

1) Pr 1 in the sheath count would be used as far away from the C O as possible. Why? Because the Pr 1 would be in the center of the cable. Don't even think about trying to dig out that pair in a 1200 hanging low on the strand. The higher counts should be in the outer binders therefore used closest to the C O. Had a Sprint contract engineer try to get me to do a 600 pr icky pic with pr 1 out side the C O when it was below 0 degrees. We had a "discussion", his contract go real short.

2)Pole 1 is also sometimes call 0 pole. It is the first riser pole in a lead. If it is 0 it is usually the riser outside the C O. Here again, this can very depending on the company.

3)Ready Access was intended to be open count --- but after time the terminals became a mess. Some companies (GTE in particular) would assign a permanent count and drop assignment for every RA to stop the mess.

OK two out of three isn't too bad for a bunch of old heads. I check your source, was told #$%%!* so it must be right.

i'm just curious if you guys south of the border use 66 blocks inside what the hell do you use for outside terminals hope its not 66 as well or are your terminals like 100ft long
