have a span about 75-100 feet. with a telephone/electric pole about half way that I would need to attach to, to get it high enough to clear semis. the pole is on their property, so it is ok to attach to it or do I need to get permission from electric company?

I would say you don't need permission, even though Telco does pay for joint use of poles. You do need to maintain clearances for safety reasons. I would probably contact the power company out of courtesy.

Verizon has a department in Baltimore that handles joint-use and pole rental agreements within their territory. Their number is 410-393-CATV (2288). Although they can't help you where you are, they may be able to point you in the right direction. They have been very helpful for me in pole space rental situations in the past.

Just be prepared to follow the rules of the pole's owner. They aren't going to allow attachments that aren't utility-grade compliant and they have the right to pull them down if they aren't done correctly.

I would look for an ownership tag on the pole. If it is a Verizon owned pole, I’d use the number that Ed provided. If it is a power company pole, I’d contact them. I would not attach without contacting the owner. The pole owner could take your cable or wire down if your attachment was not authorized. Like the previous posts mentioned, be prepared to maintain proper clearances and use acceptable hardware.
