We bought a used Merlin 410 approximately 3 months ago and have intermittent problems with it failing. The line goes dead and the red warning light on the control unit lights up. You can unplug the control unit and it might work for 5 minutes and then again it might work for 2 months. Any ideas on what might be triggering this?

You said you bought it refurbished? Is it still under warranty? If you bought it from someone offerring a less than one year warranty, I doubt it was refurbished. It was most likely just wiped off to make it look pretty. I hate to say it, but you bought an antique and I am not suprised that it failed.

The 410 ksu's are famous for power supplies failing, not really famous...they've run their life span, they were the latest and greatest in the 80's, which makes them about 25 years old. to the forum

THERE ARE 2 LARGE RESISTORS ON THE power supply. They are the usual culprit. Replace them with the same value and it will more than likely be good to go. Might have to go to electronic supply house. They used to cost $3.00 each, a long time ago.

Has anyone ever seen a Test Package that goes in the Feature Package slot? I have one and wondered if anyone has any info on these units. It test well just not sure of all it's features. Fit's all 206 /410 / 820 systems in the top feature package slot. It was made by Western Electric due to the board and chip set inside.
