Guys, keep in mind that there is no '66 block', no 'circuit ID', no NID, no nothing. There is NO service to this house whatsoever. My temporary IW drop was her only connection to the Verizon network. While the pair I found live did cause the 'DSL' light to fire up on the modem, I have no idea if that pair is hers. Since it is a ready-access pedestal, her pair could be anywhere in the 50 pair count. I just assumed that the pairs on the RPT block were somewhat permanently-documented to the terminal address, but who knows?

At the time that this OSP was built, it was owned by Piedmont Telephone Cooperative, later becoming Contel, then GTE and now Verizon. I seriously doubt that any plant records today are accurate!

ajkula66, that is exactly what she got: A fictitious phone number associated with the account, A.K.A: BTN (Billing Telephone Number).

Since she purchased this service at a Verizon Wireless store, I have no clue as to the direction this will take. People at cell phone stores are strictly salespeople, so there is a good chance that she was sold a bill of goods.

Today's follow-up with the customer looked better for me. She's received word from her landlord that he'll take care of negotiating the installation of a drop to the house. I'm (hoping) that I'm out of the loop at this point.

I don't know how things are done where you are, but in NYC one would put in the trouble ticket for VZ to "tag and locate" the circuit...let them have fun...

I failed to thank everyone for their input on this subject. This situation is a first for me, so I figured that I'd come here and ask and I'm glad that I did. We learn something new every day.

I'm thinking that since what I attempted didn't work, I should return to the site and destroy the evidence when I entered the 'sacred' telco's facilities. I was just trying to help the customer to prove that Verizon was wrong, but the liability scares me to death.

Since this was originally a rural co-op territory, I was a bit surprised to find that the pedestal had a pre-1973 Bell logo sticker on the cover. My guess is that they negotiated a deal with the nearby Bell operations to purchase their hardware through them. One may never know...

Contel was big-time into fixed-count terminals all the way back to the CO in this area, hence the presence of a more modern Reilable-brand RPT block. I'm pretty sure that when they took the territory over from the co-op, the made attempts to adapt the area to their standards. The fact that I only found four pairs on the block with any sign of life leads me to believe that this is the case.

Yes, the neighborhood's pair gain equipment is adjoined by an outdoor DSLAM cabinet, so I can only assume that they've taken this into account with a newly-placed cross-connect cabinet. While the area is served by a DMS100 node, I'm pretty sure that Verizon took this into consideration when they started offering DSL. The node is only about two miles away and it is so active that it has it's own exchange code.

Thanks again, Gang!
