While this is not an alarm but a monitoring system, has anyone used these?

Rat Shack used to sell them in the 80's. They are a bit pricey but they work. We have them out for temperature sensors and alarm contact closures. I still actively support two of them, but the lsst one I sold was about 1998.

Ken Snsaphone is geared more towards environmental monitoring. Though it does have some options for intrusion as well. If I recall you can call into the unit and it will read back what ever the current conditions are at the site, such as temperature, humidity levels, water levels, noise, motion, things of that nature. You also have the ability to adjust these levels via phone. If anything goes over or under it's set points the system will call you and let you know what is going on. We put a few of these in vacation homes so people could keep on eye on things like flooding or freezing temps. They do work rather well.

I've installed quite a few 1108 models including the temperature sensors. All are in medical facilities. Simple and solid equipment!

I have a Sensaphone operating for a number of years. I have been thrilled with it. I use it to monitor the temperature and power in a vacation home. I can call in and get the temperature and find out if the power is on and it will call out to three numbers. It has called when the power was off and when the temperature dipped on a real cold day and when the igniter quit in the boiler. Sensaphone is local to me and are always eager to answer questions and quickly supply a new temperature sensor when I wanted to change my installation. They frequently have reconditioned units available. I installed the unit to back up the central station alarm system and allow me the luxury to remotely monitor the temperature.
