Does Tadidran use a special format on their PCMCIA cards, or can you back the system onto any 8mb card using FMprog?

We need to upgrade several ver 14's to 15's. But are shy of cards. The boss ordered in some 8mb cards, but FMprog don't see them and I'm wondering why.

You may not have the correct drivers loaded. Try loading the correct drivers for the cards that you have.

FMProg sees the card and will try writing, but fails at 98%. With the SAU key, I don't see the need for security on the card, but who knows on these Israeli systems

I just went through this problem on a new laptop. It took 3 different models of thinkpad to finally work. I tried the z61,z61T and finally the T60 thinkpad worked. I think some of the more feature rich laptops that have all the connectors like 1394, Svideo out etc dont work. The T60 is straight business no fancy ports and it worked. Hope this helps

CoralTech is correct. They are special cards.
DigitPhoneMan is also correct as different PCMCIA drivers will work, others will not. At least that has been our experience.

Make sure you are also using the most current version of FM Prog. Log onto the Tadiran partner site to download the most current release.

Talked to Tadiran they said the card does not have a special driver. It uses the dirvers that come with windows. I even worked with Lenovo becasue the machine was new. I used a friends older toshiba and it worked like a champ. Got another version of the Z series and it didnt work. This time worked with Tadiran and they couldnt get it working. I have a customer that uses 100's of laptops. Tried it in new toshiba, fujitsu life book, and hp all new and none of them worked. I ordered in the T60 from Lenovo and bang, worked liked butter. No special drivers, just what came with windows. I still think it was all those addtional video ports on the consumer machines. moho

Well If you want to get one of the thinkpad series z61, or z61t and let me know. I kept hearing the same thing from everyone but thats what happened to me. I spent alot of wasted hours with IBM on the phone and even Tadiran. It seems like these cards can fall into the grey zone between software problems and hardware problems.

I'm using a T40, I can read, write the cards from Tadiran, no problem. I acquired some blank 8M cards and was curious if they would work as temporary cards to use while upgrading rev 14.xx to 15. So I wouldn't have to shut the customers switch down during the ASCII upload. Most of my customers are out of town and it can be a hassle.

What is the PCMCIA card type your boss ordered? (exact part number) :confused:
The coral uses linear flash card.

What do you see on the PC device manager ?

Some linear flash cards need 12 volts to be written to, some only require 5 volts but....they only require 5 to be read though.

Most Older laptops supply the 12volts on the bus, Most newer ones don't. That may be why you have issues where some write the card's, and some don't


On a side note, I got some linear flashcards (non AVAYA) to use for upgrading the partner system and the write to the card would fail on a them using newer laptops I have. I ended up finding out they used the 12 volt write. I got my hands on a OLD dell laptop and was able to write th the cards and the upgrades went flawlessly
