MyWay AP Story : <a href="https://apnews.myway.com//article/20080110/D8U35C500.html"target=_"blank">FBI Wiretaps Dropped Due to Unpaid Bills</a>
The first line of the story by LARA JAKES JORDAN, tells it all...
WASHINGTON (AP) - Telephone companies have cut off FBI wiretaps used to eavesdrop on suspected criminals because of the bureau's repeated failures to pay phone bills on time.
----
The killer is that in the end this amounts to lost evidence!
I also like how it's the local offices dipping into their budget to pay for it, when the HQ should be piciking up the tab!
Funny stuff abounds... hope this won't lead to other cases being thrown out.

They may have shot themselves in the foot. The Phone companys are seeking protection from prosecution for illegal wire taps. One of their arguments was they couldn't say no to the Feds. Now they say no if the Feds don't pay their bill? Could be interesting.

Bill, good point. Can't say no to the FBI...unless they don't pay!

Same old, same old. Phone companies tend to want their cake & eat it too.
