Justin's comments ring very true. Nortel has done very little to spice up their telephone product line. There are many features I have been wishing for, for years. Nortel was once the leader of the pack. Now they are just another telecom company.
My guess is I don't believe telephone systems are the main focus of Nortel anymore. They are after the telco data transmission market. We often hear news releases of some country or other has purchased a Nortel solution for the countries internet backbone.
Open letter to Nortel Networks.
My advise to Nortel, if they read these blogs, please put some time and effort into modernizing the Norstar family of telephone systems. They are one of the one the best, most rock solid, bullet proof telephone systems IN THE WORLD don't let them die. Add new features, add an IP module to the MICS. Drop the BCM and go back to basics... Norstar and Option. You've proven several times that a system concept that was first launched in 1987 can be revamped to meet modern requirements. Time to do it again and Nortel will soar.
Nortel, it's time to stop worrying about accounting practices. It's time LISTEN to your customers and make a product we are proud to call Canadian and proud to sell.

I think dropping the BCM would be a big step back. They have taken a step forward with the BCM450. We have lost deals to Cisco because the BCM400 was limited in capacity. The 450 will help close the gap.

Marv, as usual is right on target. Anyone who sells, or maintains Nortel equipment has a "Like to see" list. I'm not talking just about real fancy stuff, just follow the "KISS" rule....simple improvements.
For example: It took them what seemed like forever to have CLID available to any & all phones as they ring on their Norstar line.
A "Little", but very much wanted improvement which also took far too long was the ability to have a different ring for different lines for the Nostar line. I could retired if I had a dollar for every client that asked for that one simple thing.
It is indeed time for Nortel to start listening to the people that sell their product....by that I don't mean the Big Telcos, I mean the little guys like us. We are the ones that actually talk to the receptionist to hear what she wants and not the CEO who doesn't know the difference between a telephone & a roll of tape.
Like most companies, to cut costs, they lay off hundreds or thousands of employees, when they should be getting rid of the big wigs that don't perform and yet get far too many perks, pay, bonuses, etc.
The buy-out packages for the big wigs is where the money goes IMHO. Just think how far that same money would go if placed into R&D.
Scientists say that the universe is made up of Protons, Neutron & Electrons. They forgot "Morons". Dave. (CTUB) Canadian Techs Use Bix!
