I am trying to setup a remote extension for an offsite user. I have purchased the VOIB card, an ip8000 phone and a VPN router for both sides. The internet is by Telepacific and they are providing Static IP's. Is the best scenario to setup the VPN tunnel and link the phone that way or to assign a Public IP to VOIP board and program phone to reflect that bypassing VPN? This is my first remote extension i do so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If they're not going to use remote phones at any other location, I would just use the VPN.

The customer does actually want to use the Voip phone at 2 remote sites. In theory if I program the Public IP into the MFIM and program the VOIB with the same Public IP it should work? I don't know new to the remote extension part of this. Has anyone tried this method and been succeful?

Yep I have done that with up to 7 phones all going to the same public IP of the VOIB board.

what steps did you do to program? I have the VOIB board working with LAN network, once I program the Public IP WAN info and patch in to IP provider before the DHCP switch I am not able to ping the Board from the web and phone does not work any more. the following is my setup.
100.44.xxx.2 Wan for LAN network
100.44.xxx.3 Wan for VOIB
100.44.xxx.1 Wan Gateway from Telepacific communications
255.255.255.xxx subnet
LAN for phone 192.168.1.26
LAN Gatewway 192.168.1.1
LAN subnet 255.255.255.0
Any directions would greatly be appreciated. THANKS

You are using an active static ip assigned from the provider? That is the first thing..also once you change the voip card ip you have to reset the card for the new ip to become active. You might have to reset the provider modem as well.

Great thank you once I reset the the Pbx the new address started wworking on the public network and I have voice service anywhere I plug remote extension in off-network.

Yeah the SBX makes this real easy as long as you have a public ip directly to the unit

If the local network is baaasic 192.168.1.1
and the LAN of the SBX is 192.168.1.2
Voib = 192.168.1.3
VPN tunnel connect 1.1 net with 2.1 net
So far the only way I used remote phones on and SBX was to create a VPN so the systems are all local and the phone 192.168.2.5 points back to 192.168.1.3
Can the voib board have a Static Public 75.75.75.75 ??
Then a VPN is not even needed right??

That is correct...there is no way to get to the Lan from the voip card public address so security is not an issue.
