A lot of my conversations with customers have to do with their complaints about the tide of unwanted and harassing phone calls from telemarketers and phishers. I try to explain to them how all those criminals and scoundrels out there are taking advantage of electronic and software features and capabilities that the original inventors never thought would be used for evil, rather than for good. The issues generally involve CID spoofing and other borderline unethical and illegal practices. I listen, and then I explain, but the frustration continues. This forum is populated by men and women of the telephone industry who meet these challenges every day. Imagine my surprise when I notice that one of the sponsors of this forum is a company who provides the illegal CID spoofing that is driving us crazy. Am I the only one who feels this is inappropriate and hypocritical? This one

Good work, Admins! However, with the new phone systems, outgoing calls on a PRI can have "spoofed" CID as well. The intent was to have a user, when calling from a large company, to have their individual extension number displayed as part of the DID when calling out. This is OK as long as the installer is programming legitimate numbers into the system.

That's right. ISDN/PRI service does offer the ability to send different ANIs to the LEC. This is why the service is liked by telemarketers. They can pass along the ANI of the outfit that they are calling on behalf of. When they change clients, they change the ANIs.
