My endpoints (8622 and 8662) don't seem to retrieve the TFTP server from my DHCP server.

If I statically define the IP address for the TFTP server in each phone, everything works and the phone pulls a configuration from the TFTP server, so I knows it works.

However, I've defined the Hostname (Option 66) and IP Address (Option 150) in my DHCP server in an attempt to avoid having to manually configure each phone.

I'm running a Windows 2003 DHCP server on my network.

I need the central configuration mainly to define the VLANs of the PC Port (Vlan 2) and the Phone Port (Vlan 3). If I statically define the TFTP server (10.1.10.1) in the configuration of each phone, it pulls the correct configuration.

One thing funny I did notice, that after the phones pulled the correct configuration and assigned the correct VLANs to each port, I would have to manually reboot (uplug/replug)the phone before it would pass traffic. I'm assuming that inital DHCP IP address it pulled wasn't correct for the different vlans, since no VLANs was assigned on initial boot.

Anyone know for sure if the Inter-Tel 8622/8662 endpoints support receiving the TFTP server IP address through DHCP or must it be statically defined?

Thanks,

Matt

They alledgedly can but I have never been able to get it to work. I have never tried it with a Windows server before but have tried it with multiple models of Cisco Routers/L3 switches acting as a DHCP server for the voice VLAN/Subnet. Intertel says that their endpoints querry option 66 for a TFTP address however the RFC states as you did that 66 is hostname and not IP address. I have brought this up with InterTel Tech Support a few times with little success in a resolution. I havent tested it for awhile but to my knowledge the phone never querrys for option 150....Go figure.
As far as VLANs there is no config in either the globalconfig or the MAC specific config to address VLAN assignement of the ports on the endpoint. That has to be done at the endpoint level.

The secret is to populate option 66 w/ the IP address of your tftp server and enable option 67, but leave it blank. Option 67 is the 'path' value for the tftp files, but you should configure your tftp server to supply that, unless you have some other device using the same tftp server. We have used this setup for years.

Option 150 is not used.

Chris - You da man! I saw option 67, but just ignored it since I was using the root of the tftp server. I did try the IP address in option 66 earlier, but no luck, due to my missing option 67.

Thanks!
