First let me thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am having problems with an install for the Panasonic Advanced Hybrid System (KX-TA824).

My friend is a Doctor and is opening a new practice on here own and as I am the most tech savvy person she knows, she has turned to me to help set up a lot of the tech equipment for her office.

Computers, I can do. LANs, WANs all day. But she needed a phone system and did not want to go to VOIP, so I looked for an economical system. I found the TA824 getting stellar kudos so I ordered one.

About the site, it's an office building that has pre-existing wiring from a 66 block.
Through much trial and error I was able to install the PBX system by creating patched phone cords coming out of the PBX to jump lines pinned to the 66 block. I am able to get tone and use single line phones I've brought in for testing. But when attempting to hook up a PT phone, KX-T7731, I get nothing. Hooking up the PT straight to the TA824 it works fine.
The problem I am having is that the cables that I have created from the TA824 to the 66 block are just two line cat5 pairs that I crimped a modular jack onto. By playing with alternating the lines to another crimped jack to the outside of the connector, I can get the PT to light up, but no words and no tone.

I guess my issues is Does the line from the station jack of the 824 NEED to be a four line jack to work with a PT? Is there a configuration I can change to make it work with just two lines?

Thanks in advanced to anyone who read this wall of text from a newbie. And any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

you can download a manual on line and it discusses the 4 wire
config for your phones.
It appears the issue is your cabeling ,its not a digital system.

Just in passing, for terminology's sake, a LINE is TWO wires. When you talk about a two LINE jack, it's 4 wires. Guessing that you mean WIRES, the Panasonic proprietary analog phone (as in 77xx series) needs 4 WIRES to work. There are no shortcuts, and you will either get a single line telephone to work on two wires, or the DATA without voice if you have the data pair wired.

Are you charging her for this??

This could have been done in a couple of hours total by someone who knows what they are doing.

Do her a big favor and tell her to hire someone who knows phones to do her phone system. As you are finding out it isn't all that easy.

4 wire to all of your KXT 77XX phones. 2 wire on your single line phones and your lines into the system. Be careful when you crimp your RJ11 plug to your cable. Dont reverse your pairs or short them. It will knock down the whole system down if you mis-crimp a plug.

Yeah, I'm definitely not familiar with the vernacular. But I've come to discover what you have said to be the truth. I was able to punch in four wires into the block from the 824 and got the PT to work. I've learned so much in the last 48 hours that my brain is swelling. Thanks!

Yeah, it's a good thing she can get me the medicine for the headache this has all caused. I was able to figure it out and got my PTs working on locations needed. The problem I have now is that they are not working on locations where there was construction and new jacks put in by the contractor. It looks like he hooked up the phones with just two lines, got tone and called it a day.
