Firstly, sorry about my poor knowledge about IPO 500, forgive me if I say something wrong. aok

In the previous post, How to set up remote access for AVAYA IPO 500?, some advices, including AVG and remote dial-in, are given.

As the remote access is set up for customer (I don't know why they need it), I think IPO 500 Web Manager might be enough for them.
so here are the questions:

1. forwarding 2 ports is enough?
WAN:55580 to AVAYA:80
WAN 8443 to AVAYA: 8443

2. I don't find Gateway settings in the phone system, will the port forwarding work?
In my experience, Gateway must be set to make port forwarding work in NEC or other phone system.

By the way, phone system is Essential Edition.
Somebody helps me~~~

It looks there are more than 5 ways for the remote access for AVAYA IPO 500.

1. SSL VPN connect back to AVG (AVAYA VPN Gateway) ---I don't have an AVG

2. Dial-in through the Combo card ---never tried before

3. Local server PC with 3rd party software ---I tried IPO Manager+Teamviewer

4. IPSEC/SSL/PPTP/L2TP VPN ---not tried yet

5. Web Manager + Port Forwarding ---looks it's easier, that is for this topic.
We are getting a little too technical for this forum..

I would never recommend port forwarding for management.. If the customer wants remote access to programming, why not ask them to set up VPN, or Teamviewer or Logmein.

It is their network and as such, you will be responsible if you open ports on the firewall.

While i will not say the ports i open forums, when you log into web management at the customer site, you will see the port it uses.
Thank you for your kindly reply, mongo5150.

I will set up Teamviewer for remote access, but it's a little bit inconvenient as sometimes we need ask customer to open the software or even user ID and password.

I know the ports for Web Manager, but I don't find any Gateway settings in avaya phone system. so I am not sure port forwarding will work or not.

If someone could confirm this method is working, that will be great!
I have set up the remote access to phone systems with DID and normal PSTN trunks.

But it works on a computer with WIN7, not on my computer (WIN8). All the settings are exactly same, This drives me crazy.
Sounds like a Windowz thing.
I haven't played around with Win8 (MAC User) so i couldn't comment.
Windows 8 does crazy things!

I agree with Matt... remote access opens up A LOT of liabilty issues and security issues when talking about port forwarding, etc.

If I need after hours remote access, i have the customer setup me up to use a VPN. Most of mine use the Cisco client, and I can just remote in right to the VM Pro machine which has manager installed.
Thank you for your advices! I will not use port forwarding for remote access.

I know VPN is a good option, the question is we need ask customers to ask their IT support to set up VPN for us. some customers might not be happy with it.
