Strange indeed. What about a reboot? I would give that a shot first. I would reboot both the DBS and the VM. I have worked with Amanda's attached to the DBS before, but I have never experienced the problem you are having.
I would check the HG settings in FF4. I would also thoroughly check out all of the settings in the Amanda. Find whoever it was that made the changes and thump them in the head. After that, make them fix it back right
