I have used it to check a system that fails to boot. You can restore last good, or original config if there is a problem. Also if a corruption in the database shows up too.

I usually don't watch the booting of a working one, but you could watch one so you know what it is supposed to look like. Then you can compare it to a faulty boot.

BTW the Statagy.log file sometimes has usefull info too when troubleshooting. If the IVP8 won't boot, you can get a CF reader, pull the CF flash card from the IVP8, and copy the file to your PC.

I do backups and DST updates this way too. Much quicker.
