I'm attempting to configure our UM8000 to receive FAXes, to both a general fax box, and individuals' mailboxes (for future integration with our Exchange server).

Unfortunately our vendor has been no help, as their lead tech has not configured fax before.

I believe I should have a fax port set up (as shown in UM8000's Switch->Switch Extensions), but only shown is the 4 vm ports. Also, in SV8100 15-01, only the 4 vm ports are shown, and no fax port. Licensing in both SV8100 and UM8000 show 4 vm licenses, and 1 fax license.

I'm assuming the above is a problem. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've tried to no avail setting up a subscriber fax box; sending a fax to the DID # of the subscriber's extension only leaves CNG tones as a message.

If your dealer is certified, he/she should really know this (I don't think a dealer should "abdicate" in your time of need, but whatever...)

Since I'm not anywhere near as good a programmer as my son, and then, he just set one up a few minutes ago, I asked him to answer your question -

his reply follows:
-------------------

In the VM:
Go to Call Management, Fax Boxes, Profile.
Add a fax box for General fax and for each individual fax user.
Example:
Name= Don Fax, System ID = 400 (any extension number), Box for (The fax recipient for the general box or the individual user)

In the PBX:
11-04: Setup corresponding virtual extensions for the system ID that you used for each box
24-09-01: Call forward Immediate for each of the virtual extensions you setup
24-09-02 through 05: Set to the pilot of the VM system

Assuming this is DID routing to the fax:
22-02: all trunks should be DID
22-11: Setup the DID route to the general fax virtual extension

Assuming this is analog:
22-02: set the analog fax trunk to DIL
22-07: set the trunk destination for each system mode to the VM pilot

Once a fax call is sent to the virtual extension it will call forward immediately to one of your 4 VM ports. The VM port will answer and send the call to the 1 port fax server and send CNG tone. The fax will then be dropped into the corresponding “box for” entry that you setup in the Fax boxes area in the VM programming.

To view your fax go to the IP address of the VM. Username is usually 9 followed by the extension number of the box owner and then enter the password. All VM’s and fax messages will be in this interface. A pdf and tiff will be available.

end reply

Do you also have a fax port license and from experience the latest version of UM8000 is required for fax?? Previous versions as we have discovered were not too reliable in delivery to email addresses. Latest version of UM8000 software I have is 11.2.1.3

Don -

Thank you for your help, and please extend my gratitude to your son as well. His instructions were spot-on. I truly appreciate it.

Paul - I too, am running 11.2.1.3. Haven't tried email integration yet -- next step. Hopefully this rev works as advertised. It's frustrating dealing with intermittent bugs.

zachdha . . .

Glad you got it going. We (those who work on the telephony side of our company) really like NEC UX and SV equipment. It "just works!" However, my son is "not normal." It's like his brain and NEC "are one." smile I've never seen anyone so understand ANY system like he does NEC. That 's a good thing for us though!

Take care...
