I've heard St. Louis and Danbury, CT. I don't know from experience just heard it through the grapevine.

Htown, Contact the national office of the IBEW, which is what most will be, and they can probably tell you which states are closed shop and how to contact the local for techs. There aren't too many closed shop states, unless things have changed. Bill

I guess I am showing my ignorance here, but what does that mean exactly? If I want to work in those towns I can not do it without being a member of the union or having permission from them?
I was born in Hungary and they had a word of that....

None here, I believe Nevada is, I was a member of the IBEW when I worked there.

I was a member of the IBEW a while back and North Jersey that was there dominant territory. Actually, there's union all over NJ. It really all depends who the general contractor is and if they are for against unions. Around here, its mostly the large new contruction buildings that are union.

Corwyn, Close shop means if you work on a job with other workers who are orgainized you have to join the union, as I stated that is rare anymore. Agency shop is the same thing only you pay the dues but don't have to join. Most states are right to work (for less) so you don't have to join or pay dues even though a union represents you. Bill

Springfield, Illinois is mostly Union, but you do not have to be. In the State of Illinois, any State, Federal, or City of Springfield location you have to be Union. All the other business locations it depends on there managment.
