Paul, I have a phone from the early 50's that was in my dad's house. NO child could hang that handset up gently! It weighs more than 2 of todays' phones! I'll bet the 'gentle' comment was so they wouldn't 'cwush their widdle fingas'.  John C. (Not Garand)
