hi guys i have a customer with a viking hf-2wc talk back paging amp. was working ok and they called saying it isnt working. i am using a co port. i can hear a loud buzz on it when i go off hook on the page port. when i disconnect the spker leads at the viking unit the noise goes away. the horn is in a ahop about 15 feet away and is fed by 6 pair drop cable. i disconnect at the spkr end and still have the hum. tried another pair and still have the hum. it runs about 12 feet high from building to building and i cant see any damage to the cable. any ideas on this. thanks dave

Take the horn and connect to the amp.
Work yes= cable bad.

Work no= could be bad horn or amp. Try known working horn.

I cable is not outside rated cable it could look fine but be filled with moisture.

Ah, yes. The old technical support mantra:

Try Cat5 to fix anything.

Don't bother to use a meter, scope, parts substitution, logic, intelligence, electrical theory, common sense, or experience.

Glad it worked out well for you. You were lucky, this time.

I wonder what might have happened had you substituted Cat 3 cable? Or just a piece of quad?

Or if you had just connected the speaker right at the unit, bypassing the cable which appears to be bad.
