Our SV8500 is managed by MA4000, and I am going to upgrade the MA4000 from v9 to v11. I received the license file by email and going to use the manual method to register the lic.
my question : is there any preparation work to do prior to register the lic?

Lee-there shouldn't be any road bumps going from 9 to 11. You need to review the version 11 release notes (a specifically released document) to see if the OS and hardware are still compatible, as well as any version changes. If you cannot get your hands on this doc, let me know. I'm not sure if I can post the doc here or not, but I can email it to you.

thank you for your reply.
upgrade was done successfully, and to complete the job we had to register the new License file manually ...the registration failed giving us this error:(exception in license file: attempt to write a read-only database attempt to write a readonly database)
any suggestions?

Are you running the latest LMC?
Also, there have been several reports of License File corruption. The only way to fix is to get NTAC involved to have the licenses recreated. Sorry, but I don't have any other suggestions.
