I agree, to some extent. I doubt that there is a conspiracy by the copper companies to bring out a new category just to keep copper alive. That source is the IEEE and ANSI/TIA/EIA.

I do fully agree that, if the industry would move everything to fiber, the cost would come down to a reasonable level and all the category nonsense would go away.

By the way....the decline of the telephone business may be short lived. Has anyone been following the FCC and their motions to regulate the net as well as imposing user fees for telecom services over the internet? Comcast, AT&T and some others are already data capping. I can't wait for those VoIP people to get their ISP bills in the thousands of dollars for over cap usage. It's coming. Look for the "Net Neutrality" wars to heat up soon. Does ANYONE really think the government can keep their hands out of a potential trillion dollar "honeypot?"
