I'm looking into getting certified with a few other vendors, Avaya being one of them. As I keep getting bid requests for systems using Avaya equipment...

What different level's of certification are there for Avaya, and what does the testing/training cost for each certification.

It really depends on what you want to be certified on.

Not much in the way of certifications on Partner's or the Magix anymore. However, Definity and IP Office you can obtain certifications. There are several certifications available for the two products I have mentioned. They range from Installation and Maintanence, to system coordinator's, to voicemail systems, sales, etc...

Holding a certification does not benefit you unless you are an Avaya Business partner. You cannot access tech support simply by being certified. You have to be a business partner for that. Also, even for a BP, Definity tech support still costs money.

Don't expect to learn everything in the classes either. The IP Office class was very basic. That seems to be the case with most of the certifications from the other manufacturer's as well. Classes are helpful in getting you familiar with the product. Things like hardware configurations, logging into the system, and a few basic commands. The best method for obtaining knowledge IMO, is actually installing them in real customer scenerios.

Other's will chime in with more info than I can provide. All of what I have experienced and have mentioned, was during my tenure working for a BP. I am not a BP, but there are some here. They will have better and more precise answers to your questions.

Goodluck

No study guides on Avaya Learning. There is a class that you can take but that will cost you money.

What would be a good class to take for someone with alot of programming experence but not alot of Definity programming background? (For the Definity system of course)

And can anyone take them as long as you have the cash to pay?
