UPDATE: Problem is caused by the cordless phones. Vtech 5.8Ghz Model:IA5824
Unless you want to add a few years to your life, don't try these phones on a Partner R7.

The long and short of it. I have three 18D's w/customer supplied Vtech phones (model listed above) plugged into the Aux. port on the 18D's. Ext. 10 w/cordless Ext. 11 w/cordless Ext. 12 w/cordless Ext. 13 cordless only Ext. 14 cordless only Ext. 15 cordless only
Anytime one of these cordless phones is plugged in it will cause the port to go off hook and then back on hook for no reason. I know very very weird! By now you probably think I'm crazy, but I'll continue....... So the 18D's are programmed with BLF keys for easy VM transfers and such. A few times an hour all the BLF lights will light up for roughly 2 seconds and then go out. If your on the phone at the time you will hear two click noise's coinsiding with the lights going on then off. If the auto line select is set to CO line first (default) on the phones, line 1 will go off hook and then back on. Through troubleshooting (many hours), if the cordless phones are not plugged in, the problem doesn't exist. If one cordless is plugged in by itself on any port, the problem returns only on that BLF or port.

Strange to say the least. Why would the phones go off hook by themselves? Wonder if it is some kind of line monitoring function?
I suppose it wouldn't matter or even be noticed if the phone were connected directly to a CO line which is the intended purpose. Since now you know it's something that could be ignored.
By the way this would happen on any key system with T/R ports so don't blame the R7.

It's not the R7. I happen to like the R7. The system works great for the customer. Thats why I always suggest that the customer supply any divice that may not be supported with there full knowledge (cordless phones). I just wish I could find a solution for the customer that needs mobility in a very small office. Yeah the problem could be ignored exempt they hear the click noise when there on the phone and the caller always asks them "are you still there". Suppose we'll have to try another type/brand of cordless. Thanks Hal

Have you run this by Vtech tech support?
Actually now that I am thinking about this a little more that would be noticeable even when used on a CO line if there were another phone in use on the line. I'm wondering if then there is some connection with it being used behind the Partner, like the less than 48v battery?
Or maybe it does do the same thing when on a CO line?

Perhaps they are going off hook to listen for stutter dial tone from the CO, to show a message waiting light for telco based voice mail.

Yeah. That's what I was getting at with the line monitoring. Connected behind the Partner it can't use a low battery voltage to know if another phone is off hook on that line and not check.

Hey...... you might be on to something here. That would make complete sense. I wonder if there may be a way to disable that feature since I don't need it? I will take a look at the manual and or call Vtech tech support.
Thank You!
